Smart Brain is 'n reading programme that is based on phonetical training. The duration varies between 48 and 80 hours, depending on individual ability. The program has been operational since 2005. 25 Grade 4 pupils will once again be enrolled in the programme at Ikaya Primary during 2007.
It has proven to have an immense impact on their attitude and performance in school. Being Xhosa speaking, progress is slower than when taught to read in ones home language. This project is made possible by the Make A Difference organization.
